Email Birth Announcements

Email birth announcements or electronic birth announcements are an easy and fast way to announce your baby’s birth to family and friends.

There are lots of benefits to sending email birth announcements:

  • you don’t have to address envelopes,
  • no stamps are required,
  • your friends and family find out the wonderful news quickly,
  • you can also send as many photos of your newborn as you like, and
  • they are a great free birth announcement idea

The disadvantage of a birth announcement email is that emails are disposable and are not a keepsake for you, your baby or for the person who receives them.

Another downside is that some of your family and friends may not have email connection and will miss out. This may particularly be the case for your older relatives. They are often the ones who most treasure receiving the news of a new baby to the family and eager to see a photo of your newborn.

You can overcome these disadvantages by sending a baby gift thank you card which displays a photo of your baby. You can keep a card for your baby’s keepsake box or baby memory book. Also any relatives without email will get the opportunity to see baby.

An electronic birth announcement idea that you will love

One easy and beautiful electronic birth announcement idea is to create a birth announcement using Smilebox.

Smilebox have lots of baby designs to choose from including e-cards, slideshows, scrapbooks, photo books and postcards.

All you have to do is choose a design that you like, add your baby's photos, videos, birth announcement wording and music and then email to your family and friends. They will be thrilled!

Email Birth Announcements Tip

Make a list of all the people you want to share your wonderful news with and have their emails entered and saved as a contact in your address book on your computer before the birth of your baby.

It’s a good idea to create an email distribution list too before you have your baby. It will save you time as you will have all the emails of family and friends in the one place.

Here is how to create a distribution list in Microsoft Outlook:

  • On the File menu, point to New, and then click Distribution List.
  • In the Name box, type a name.
  • Click Select Members.
  • In the Show names from the list, click the address book that contains the e-mail addresses you want in your distribution list.
  • In the Type name or select from list box, type a name you want to include. In the list below, select the name, and then click Members. Do this for each person you want to add to the distribution list, and then click OK.
  • If you want to add a longer description of the distribution list, click the Notes tab, and then type the text.

The distribution list is saved in your Contacts folder by the name you give it. You could save your distribution list with a name like "Baby Announcement Distribution List".
